Stay Safe from Scammers!
Have you been the victim of a locksmith scam? Whether you have or not, you may be surprised to learn the frequency at which this happens. Scams have become more and more common, as they often occur during a time when you are experiencing an emergency, be it that you are locked out of your car or your house; they know you are in need of help ASAP. We will NEVER provide false information, spike prices or fall short on service. We care about each and every customer, and that is why we want to provide you with some information and tips that will help you avoid a scam in the future.
Locksmith scammers often times pay for call centers and 800 numbers that they use to answer your call. These callers are basically hired to bait and switch someone, advertising a lower cost and then dramatically increasing the price once the job is done, claiming that the job was more complicated than originally thought, required more time, etc. Demand a cost estimate BEFORE the job is completed and be sure that there is no price negotiations attempted afterwards.
Be sure to check the locksmith’s ID and licensure so that you are comfortable in knowing that this is not someone who is impersonating a professional. It can be easier than you’d like to think to acquire the necessary equipment to copy and reproduce a key, one which they might use at a later date to enter your home. The locksmith should also ask you for your ID to be sure that you are the owner of the property or vehicle you are locked out of. Always be weary of anyone who pulls up in an unmarked vehicle and appears to be someone without a professional presence.
While we can certainly go on and on about scammers and threats, the most important point is to always use your best judgement and follow your gut. If you feel uneasy about who you are on the phone with or who you meet in person, end the situation immediately. We guarantee a wonderful, professional and honest experience with all of our customers at Brown’s Lock Shop & Maintenance and we encourage you to contact us with any of your questions and locksmith needs.
